What Is CMAX?

CMAX stands for 'Character Monthly Art eXchange' (a somewhat awkward acronym!). In short, the objective of CMAX is to provide a monthly event for web-savvy artists to produce art for each other, based on their own original characters.

To be eligible for entry you must have a webpage containing art depicting characters of your own design.

CMAX proceeds as follows:

  • Entrants are to sign up during the month previous to the CMAX they wish to participate in.
  • The entry details are collated by CMAX administrators, then posted in the News & Events Forum.
  • Each entrant is sent an email detailing their randomly assigned recipient entrant, and the deadline.
  • Entrants browse the online material their recipient has provided, and select one or more of the recipient's original characters as a subject for a piece of art.
  • Within a month, entrants produce art for their recipient.
  • The art is posted in the Submissions Forum, for comment and discussion.

Note that before the final art is submitted by an entrant, their recipient does not know who is drawing art for them, or even which character they are drawing - this adds a degree of (hopefully pleasant) suprise to the proceedings. However, submissions may be posted in the Submission Forum at any time.

If you have any questions regarding these rules, do not hesitate to post a query in the Q&A Message Forum or email one of the CMAX administrators. Most of the rules below apply to late submissions. If you submit your work on time, you have nothing to worry about.

Sign-Up

You may sign-up for entry up to a month prior to the start of a new CMAX. No late name entries are allowed. Entrants who have not submitted all of their previously assigned CMAX work, will be excluded from entering.

Any entrant may withdraw from the next month during the sign-up period. To withdraw from the next month's CMAX, delete your entry post from the sign-up forum, or post a withdrawal notice.

The entrants list will be published in News & Events shortly before confirmation emails are sent.
